Homework Week of Jan.24th.2011

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1 In Math we are reviewing measurement and how we “ measure” temperature, what tools we use to measure temperature, what tools we use for weight and height:example we use a measuring cup to measure liquids.

2)In Science we will make the connection to math by reading and practicing measuring classroom temperatures and how to keep healthy and dress properly during the Winter season.

We will begin to make a weather chart based on the chart on page C29. This will allow the children to see and make connections to writing/ science and math: making lists/ collecting and recording information. Reinforce spelling and recognition of the days of the week and recognizing numbers on a thermometer.

3)In Social Studies we will be reading about our Nations symbols : Flag, Liberty Bell as examples.

4)In Religion we will continue discussing the Celebration of Catholic Schools Week. A school wide project we are participating in is raising funds for an orphanage in Haiti. We are asking students to donate a dollar or any change they can during the week. Please send money in an envelope PLEASE PUT CHILDS NAME AND GRADE ON ENVELOPE…..

PHONICS: Workbook Page 113: Medial Consonant: CIRCLE THE LETTER that stands for the SOUND in the MIDDLE of the picture name: EXAMPLES: Number 1:spider: CIRCLE the ‘d’/Number 7: balloon: CIRCLE the ‘l’. This activity allows the children to see/say/ and hear the “middle” letter in the word.

SCIENCE: Take a few minutes and record the temperature and time you measured the temperature or heard the temperature on the news/ had help looking the temperature up on line or in the newspaper:
